Instagram rolling out new feature ‘Private Story Likes’ without sending a DM

Instagram is introducing a new tool for its users called “Private Story Likes.” You may now like someone’s Instagram story without DMing them thanks to this recent update. As you are all aware, direct messages (DMs) are sent between two or more Instagram users. You have been using it up to this point to reply to Instagram stories.

The majority of the images you post on Instagram are called stories. They allow you to directly share your text, images, and videos. You may now admire someone’s story without cluttering their inbox thanks to the private story likes function.

In the video, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the launch of this new function on his Twitter account. He has confirmed that you will now see a heart icon between the small paper aircraft and the send message icon when browsing through people’s Instagram stories. The author of that piece will receive a like if you touch on the icon. The viewer sheet will display the like rather than both of your direct messages.

You may now show love by like people’s tales without sending a direct message (DM) thanks to a new feature that was launched today. Stories with private likes do not have like counts. Instead, it shows up on your stories view sheet as hearts next to people’s usernames. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri tweeted about this on his official account.

This declaration clarifies that the stories will not have like counts. This strategy, however, differs greatly from the one Instagram decided to adopt for users’ primary feeds. Instagram, which is owned by Meta, experimented with “hiding like counts” from the main feed for over two years before opting to keep them enabled by default. On your posts, you can choose to conceal them.

You can see the number of likes on stories on your tales view sheet, but the public won’t be able to see it. The Instagram CEO went on to say that the goal of creating the private story likes feature is to allow users to show more support for one another while also making direct messages a little more streamlined.
